DROPPING DAYLIGHT
THE BLUE NOTE [COLUMBIA, MO] - APRIL 18, 2006

With as many bands as I see every year, it becomes harder and harder for a band I've never heard of to impress me. Last summer I was very lucky to catch Dropping Daylight open for Motion City Soundtrack. I was instantly amazed by them -- their music and live show in general. So, when they randomly added a date with Jack's Mannequin at the Blue Note with only a few days' notice, I immediately made plans to make the two hour drive to the show.

I goes without saying that the show was worth every single penny I spent on gas. As much as I enjoy Jack's Mannequin, Dropping Daylight completely blew them off stage. Both bands are piano rock bands, but Dropping Daylight has an energy that is hard to follow. Their far-too-short set included "Lucy," "Apologies," and "Waiting Through the Afternoon" amongst a few others.

It is very possible that I was one of only a handful in that crowd that already knew Dropping Daylight well, if at all. However, with their amazing music and stage presence, I know they won over many, many new fans.
