POWDERFINGER DREAM DAYS AT THE HOTEL EXISTENCE [DEW-PROCESS/FONTANA] - NOVEMBER 11, 2008 |
|
After taking a few years hiatus, Powderfinger has come back with their latest album, Dream Days at the Hotel Existence. While acclaimed to not resonate as loudly as their other albums, this one certainly should not be overlooked.
The album's first track, "Head up in the Clouds," is the strongest track, in my opinion. The words are simple, but the chorus is strong and has been playing over and over in my head. "Lost and Running" is the lead single on the album. It is rather mellow while mixing in an acoustic delight that seems to sum up the remainder of the album's personality. Later on, following suit, comes "Long Way to Go" with its bellowing lyrics to one’s soul. My favorite line was summed to, “...don’t exist, just relax and let go." If only we could all learn to do just that.
The tracks on this album don’t flow seamlessly with some songs seeming out of place (i.e. "Black Tears"). It took several listens as a whole to grow on me. However, there are no bad songs on the album, just a few tracks that stand out above the rest such as "Head Up in the Clouds," "Surviving," and "Long Way to Go." I liked what I heard and will be interested to see what else is in the future for Powderfinger.
