OPIATE FOR THE MASSES
MANIFESTO [CENTURY MEDIA] - JULY 08, 2008

After touring with Filter and 10 Years for a few months, Opiate for the Masses has released a new CD entitled Manifesto. The short album -- only 11 tracks -- is filled with heavy metal and catchy beats. This album is made for the Goth and metal crowds. In fact, Hot Topic is selling an exclusive, limited edition two disc compilation of Manifesto.

The album opens up with the song "21st Century Time Bomb," which is a heavy, aggressive tune. It speaks to the masses as a call to action. This song was my personal favorite on the album and was an excellent starting song. Unfortunately, from there the rest seemed to fade out. Each song ran together smoothly, but almost so much that they all started sounding the same. Songs like the track "Dead Underground," speak easy lyrics like “Wake up before you’re dead underground." Duh.

I will give them credit for a job well done on the song "Wandering Star," which is a cover of the Portishead song. This song was covered very well with a touch of their own talent added to it. Additionally, their single on the album, "Burn You Down," has been climbing the rock charts ever since its release.

All in all, this album was quite generic. It wasn't bad, but wasn't necessarily great either. The songs did not stand out much and seemed to run together without much variation. Although it sounds like a great deal, I think I’ll pass on the Hot Topic exclusive offer.
