I must admit I am included in the crowd of people who are bothered by Christmas music coming out the day after Halloween. It is shoved down my throat 24 hours a day for two months and by the time Christmas comes, I can’t stand to hear another song. However, An Alternative Christmas breaks the monotony.

This new album includes classic tracks like "Silent Night," "Winter Wonderland" and "Oh Holy Night." Although these are the same songs I can hear all day on some radio stations, the artists on An Alternative Christmas have done a masterful job of making the songs not so routine.

Other songs such as Thriving Ivory's "Our December," Safetysuit's "Anywhere but Here," and Better Than Ezra's "Merry Christmas Eve" were written to reflect on the season, but can actually be listened to year round. "Our December" is one of my favorites, as it has a catchy beat and is a great opening track to the album.

The songs on this album have simple words and appealing sounds. It is the perfect storm for a refreshing change from the normal, overplayed Christmas songs. While I’m not sure that the whole family would love it, I will definitely tune in to get myself into the holiday spirit!
