AIDEN
SOKOL AUDITORIUM [OMAHA, NE] - MAY 21, 2006

If Wil Francis, frontman of Seattle-based Aiden, had never mentioned it, no one would have ever guessed that he woke up that morning with a 102 degree fever and was on voice rest. They tore right into their set just as they do on their CD Nightmare Anatomy, with the fast-paced "Knife Blood Nightmare," only pausing to stretch out a tiny break in the song for impact. Not that the crowd needed much convincing at all, but this was the perfect song to kick all the boys in girls in their asses and get them going.

Aiden kept it going with "Goodbye, We're Falling Fast." This song offers a momentary break from the insanity of theirnon-stop live show, but comes back with fierce screaming and a wall of guitars. The next song, "The Last Sunrise," leads Francis to interact with the crowd a bit more. He jumps off stage and onto the barricade, leaning right into the crowd for some face-to-face fun. Francis has no qualms about singing meer inches from a fan's face (nor does he about swinging his mic around, in fact. Although, since this show had a barricade so the fans were generally too far from him to worry about this). It is easy to see the stars in every girl's eyes as she stares at Francis and reaches up just to touch his arm. That's a story she will have to tell all of her friends later. Almost just as quickly as was in the crowd, he leaped right back up on the stage.

During a break between songs, the crowd learns that Wil's mom lives not far from Omaha, and is actually sitting sidestage watching the show. Aiden plays "Unbreakable (I.J.M.A.)" for her, then dives into "Die, Romantic" before bringing back a song off their first release, Our Gangs Dark Oath. The re-release of this CD on Victory Records has given them the chance to bring it back into their set. It also gives the crowd an amazing chance to mosh and crowd surf, as this song basically just screams for it.

After pumping up the crowd's hearts, it was time for a cool off period. This is the part of the show that any fan who has seen Aiden before knows. Everyone puts his arms around the person next to him, regardless if the two know each other or not. Francis then gives a speech about feeling out of place when he was in school, and everyone here should respect one another and get along because these are the people who will always be there. Aiden then end the show with "World by Storm," as they always do. In the middle of the song, Francis gives another speech, and asks for help singing. "It's in our heads!" he says, and points to his head. "It's in our hearts!" and moves his hand to his heart. "The world by storm!" and points up and out. A repeat lesson for those who didn't get it the first time, and the band goes back into the song. At the beginning of the lines the crowd screams back, he throws the mic on stage allowing the crowd to carry the song. He soon retrieves the mic and joins in, only now he has climbed onto the crowd and is being held by fans, Davey Havok [AFI] style.

Overall I would have to say this show was the best I have ever seen of Aiden (out of five shows ranging from venues of 345 capacity to 2,500 capacity). All of the members were on, despite any illnesses (Francis was not the only sick member!), and were very interactive with the crowd. This band knows how to put on a show and knows how to win over the hearts of the majority of the audience.
