| EVERY TIME I DIE - Interview by Aaron Keen |
Keith Buckley [vocals]
|
| How's the tour been going so far? |
|
KB: I love it! It's been extremely hot, though, and terribly long drives and I'm looking forward to getting to the east coast to where it'll be a little... not so spaced out.
|
| How many Warped Tours have you guys done? |
KB: This is our second; 2006 was the first one.
|
| How do you like this one compared to the last one? |
KB: It's cool. This time we're on main stage, last tour we were on Hurley, so it's a totally different experience. I'm starting to like it. It's a lot more nerve racking, I think.
AATM: How come?
KB: I dunno... Main stage is... main stage! Hurley was a lot more relaxed. Everybody is fucking amazing who works on the tour, but Hurley you just didn't feel so much pressure. But, we're answering the call and it's going pretty well!
|
| What makes your headlining shows different from these? |
KB: When you headline shows, it's kind of like you're throwing a party, I think. You get nervous... it's your party, you gotta make sure everyone's having fun and shit gets broken... But this is just like you're at an awesome party and you're just enjoying it.
|
| Speaking of parties, how do you like Kansas City? |
KB: I do like it. It's really fuckin' humid, though! Last time we were in Kansas City we... the drummer from Super Joint Ritual hung out and we got really drunk together. It's a story to tell my grandkids someday, but it was kinda dangerous.
AATM: What happened?
KB: We just went to this bar and we just got super drunk and it ended with the cops coming.
AATM: What bar did you go to?
KB: I don't even remember the name of it... It was one right be the venue with the electronic bull. Across the street kind of maybe? Up a hill? I was drunk.
AATM: Was it Buzzard Beach?
KB: No, it wasn't that. I do know what that was is, but no, I can't remember.
AATM: McCoy's? Was it also a restaurant?
KB: No, it was just a little pool hall. I dunno.
AATM: It's always interesting to know where people go.
KB: Yeah... it had pool tables and a lot of tequila. That's what I remember.
AATM: That's never good.
|
| So do you guys party in every city? |
KB: No, no, no. Warped Tour... it kind of is a travelling party, but even then it gets too much sometimes. We need nights off.
|
| So, I'm looking at the tattoos. They look really fresh. Can you describe them? |
KB: Yeah, they're brand new. There's this artist I like called Mark Bride and he did a painting called "Weeping," and it's from his Blood series. These are... It's one painting with a guy and girl together and they have blood coming out of their eyes. It's kinda cool.
AATM: So, you just got it outlined?
KB: Yeah, I just gotta wait til it heals then I'll go back in and get color.
|
| What is the worst shinfo you've been asked? |
KB: Andy's the king of it. He has the worst shinfo ever. That dude'll just talk and talk and talk and you're like 'What is even going on?' Somebody came up to us the other day "Hey man I just bought a shirt from this band on the way! Can you sign this piece of paper?" and I'm like "What?! You told us about a shirt!" I'm like, "Do you know... Watch this DVD, please, and realize what you just said!"
|
| Tell me about the process of how your CDs come along. Hot Damn, for example, tell me about the process for that CD. |
KB: That was... we were just really young and we knew what we listened to a lot of and we tried to incorporate that as much as possible. Hot Damn was kind of like just a bunch of parts thrown together. I think as we've gotten older we've tried to make songs that sound like a whole song, like an actual song and not just a bunch of parts thrown together.
|
| Who's your favorite band to tour with? |
KB: Norma Jean is definitely up there for sure. UnderOATH is also a good band.
AATM: Is there any particular reason why?
KB: No, just everybody in the band we get along with extremely well. UnderOATH is some of the nicest guys ever, Norma Jean's the most fun.
|
| If you were to walk away from this, what would you take away from the experience? Not just Warped Tour, but everything you've done. |
KB: The fact that music really does have impact on every single person. Just that this started as a way for us to play one club that we loved in Buffalo, that we'd seen all of our favorite bands play and ten years later we're on main stage at Warped Tour. People do listen. And that's so cool.
